We, along with the rest of the nation have been watching closely as the COVID 19 pandemic evolves. Due to the recommendations on public gatherings, and for the safety of all players, families and community members, we are unable to begin ball play until all restrictions have been lifted. Sunday, March 29th, President Trump extended the social distancing guidelines until April 30th. Unfortunately this means that we will be unable to restart our season on our previously anticipated date of April 6th. The North City Board of Directors has been working diligently on a plan of action for the upcoming months. We know that playing the 2020 season is extremely important to so many of you, and we are committed to doing all that we can to assure our kids can play some ball when our community is safe to do so. We will continue to closely monitor the situation, while staying in touch with representatives from PONY baseball, to determine the best course of action moving forward.
In the meantime, we want to keep our North City community strong. Although we are not physically playing baseball with each other, #wethenorth are all in this together. Please take a moment to follow us on both Instagram and Facebook. We will be sharing some of the creative ways that players are still getting their baseball time in at home, as well as league updates as we navigate the evolving situation. If you would like to share any photos or videos with the league, please send them to or post to your own social media accounts with the hashtag #wethenorth to be featured.

Subject: A message to our loyal fans
Today at 1:10PM we were scheduled to host our Opening Day and celebrate the return of Major League Baseball and the Padres to San Diego for our 2020 season. At this point we do not know when baseball will return to Petco Park but we know it will return. And when it does we look forward to celebrating with you as our community gathers once again to enjoy our National Pastime and cheer for the Padres.
We are all facing a very difficult and challenging time. Our hearts go out to those who have been impacted by this crisis. We stand with our federal, state and local authorities as they lead us through this time and encourage everyone to heed the direction we are receiving from those leaders. We also have profound respect and appreciation for our health care workers, first responders and all those who are volunteering to help our community during this time.
In recognition of Opening Day we are partnering today with Phil’s BBQ to provide lunch for UCSD Healthcare and San Diego Blood Bank employees and volunteers who are on the front lines in our fight against the Coronavirus. Additionally, at 1:10PM today we will play God Bless America at Petco Park as a symbol of solidarity with our resilient country and all of you during this time of crisis.
Through the years MLB has played a key role in helping our country overcome adversity and heal. We look forward to playing that role once again. We will look for additional opportunities to support our community in the coming days. We will also communicate with our ticket holders regarding how to receive a credit, exchange or refund for tickets to any cancelled games as soon as we have direction from MLB on the 2020 schedule.
We hope you and your loved ones remain healthy and safe during this time.
On behalf of the North City Youth Baseball Board of Directors, families, and players we would like to thank Randy Rainaldi and Michael "Woody" Woodruff for their time spent in repairing the batting cage lights at the Mt. Etna fields.
Mr. Rainaldi's son is a former NCYB player and we appreciate the giving back in dontation of time and talents. This repair helps NCYB continue it's mission of developing great players and great kids.
Thank you to our board members, coaches, parents, players and kiddos who came out today to help get our fields ready for the 2019 Turkey Tournament. It was a huge effort to get Mount Etna, Mission Bay and Hickman Fields ready after the huge rain storm.
A gigantic thank you to Tom Sanchez and Matt Sullivan for their tireless work, putting in over 10 hours to get our fields quickly turned around and ready for play.
Our North City Youth Baseball Hickman Field was paved this morning in part to the leadership of our Hickman YAA Board President Scott Berndness and Hickman YAA Board Member Dan Worley. Dan Worely was able to seek and receive the support of Fred Willert, the owner of FJ Willert Contracting Company, to complete the project before the predicted rain.
Mr. Willert donated over 2,000 yards of top quality material, along with huge delivery trucks, skip loaders, and motor graders to complete the Hickman Field paving project. On behalf of the North City Youth Baseball Board of Directors, families, and kiddos we would like to offer a gigantic and sincere thank you to Mr. Willert for his generosity and support of youth sports.
