by posted 05/10/2021

Hi everyone,

Just providing an update as a few parents have asked what the status is for this week.

Now that the pool play is over, we have been seated in the NC end of season tournament.  Currently the SSU app has not been updated but from my understanding our next game will be Wednesday (5/12) @ Hickman @ 4:45. Arrival time will be 3:45 to begin warmups.  The tournament is single elimination.  Please let me know if anyone has any pitching restrictions.

See you at practice tonight.

Thanks,
Jim

Bronco Update: Practice Tomorrow
by posted 05/06/2021

Hi Everyone,

Looks like we only have a few kids signed up for tomorrow’s extra practice.  Please RSVP as soon as possible as to whether or not you can make it.  If we can't muster at least 5 kids, I will probably cancel tomorrow’s practice.  I'll send an email with an update either way tomorrow based on the final RSVP count.

Bronco Update: Batting Practice Monday
by posted 04/30/2021

To all,

Sorry for the extra email but on Monday (5/3) we will be hosting a batting practice @ Etna.

For this practice we would like to break the kids into two time slots or groups (Group A - 4:30 to 5:30) or (Group B - 5:30 to 6:30).  This will allow coaches to work with your child more one-on-one regarding their hitting mechanics.

ACTION:  Please let me know which time slot or group you would like to be a part of.  If I don't hear from you we will place your child in a group and let you know what time to arrive and pickup.  Expect the SSU app to be updated shortly with the Monday practice information.

Thanks,
Jim

Dear Team,

We will have an end-of-season team party this Saturday (May 1) after our game at Mount Etna Park.  I’ll get some pizzas & drinks for the kids & we’ll recognize our dedicated coaches for all their hard work this season.  Hope you can join us!  Let me know if you have questions or suggestions!

Bronco Update: Parent Communications
by posted 04/28/2021

Hi Everyone,

I know this season has been challenging for many different reasons, but I wanted to send this email to let you know that I am doing the best I can to ensure your child is having fun, staying engaged while holding them accountable to working hard and delivering with excellence.

My message to the kids from the beginning (Practice #1 to today’s practice) is that if you work hard, have a good attitude, and compete, you will always provide yourself an opportunity to grow and move up.  As a coach I can only go out with a game plan, work with the kids and be a positive influence on them to raise their bar.  The rest is up to the kids.

In addition, I strongly believe that at this level (even though this is recreational baseball) we still need to be competitive in spirit by coming to practice on time, working hard and doing everything in our power to compete. This competitive spirit is what drives us to get better in sports and in life.

I know several parents have had constructive feedback on my coaching approach.  With that said, I hope that parents would be empathic to the fact that this is a very challenging season with a team of 14 kids.  This season, I have met and exceeded the rules of the Pony rule book with the hopes of keeping the kids engaged.  With that said, 14 kids on a team, means that 5 kids per inning will sit.  Pony rules state that no child will sit more than 3 innings in a game and will play a minimum of one inning in the infield.  After that it is up to the coach’s discretion on how the team should be played.  I can guarantee that every child has met this requirement for every game we have played.  After that, my job is to put the most competitive team on the field and place kids where I feel they will excel and provide the greatest value to the team.  Please understand that 14 kids is not ideal and yes, that means 6 or 7 kids will sit 3 innings per game (My kid included) and most of the other kids will sit 2.  I am sending this email to help you understand the challenges we have had to deal with this season.  In closing I just want to say that each of your kids are wonderful to work with.  They are all very kind, respectful and have been fun to coach.

Please note that for the tournament the Pony rules are still in play with exception of the required one inning in the infield.  I know this is not what some parents want to hear but putting the most competitive team on the field will be a focus as we (The Team) try our best to put a “W” in the win column.

I appreciate your support and patience as we continue to strive for the best and come out on top.  If anyone would like to discuss this more, please feel free to give me a call (619-647-9159).

Respectfully,
Jim
